17. MAGENTO 2 • Suits for small businesses (Community Edition; cost effective) • Scales for enterprises (Enterprise Edition: 1million unique daily visitors, 800k daily page views, 100k concurrent customers, 100 concurrent admin users, +15M SKUs, +2800 orders/minute) • Suits for growing businesses (Migration from CE to EE) • Suits for backend integrated (WS & Rest API’s, MQ, ERP connectors) • 500.000 Magento developers around the world • 6700 Magento solution and hosting partners around the world • Magento 2 project costs and takes time only a fraction compared to SAP Hybris, IBM WebSphere Commerce or Oracle ATG Commerce project Copyright Tero Juola

11. MAKE NO MISTAKE WITH CMS • CMS means Content Management System. CMS is used to build and develop dynamic web pages for websites. The examples of CMS are Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, etc. • E-commerce means Electronic Commerce. E-commerce is a one type of website used for selling and buying products online. The examples of E-commerce are Magento, SAP Hybris, IBM WebSphere Commerce, Oracle Commerce, etc. • Shopping cart plugin does not make CMS an E-commerce software • WooCommerce and all the other plugin type shopping cart extensions for Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla CMS are missing 99% of the features that are needed to run an E-commerce site • CMS with shopping cart plugin and E-commerce as systems are just incomparable • Vice versa E-commerce systems have CMS that are average at best. • Magento 2.3 Enterprise Edition will have integrated Bluefoot CMS. The best of breed CMS for e-commerce. Copyright Tero Juola

6. BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE WEBSPHERE COMMERCE • Was one of the very first e-commerce platforms. • Was launched originally 1996 as IBM Net.Commerce for AIX, Windows, AS/400 and Mainframe. REI was the first customer. • Was based on IBM HTTP Server, C++ stored functions in DB, IBM Net.Data (DB2 macro language extension) and DB2 Universal Database. • Renamed 2000 as IBM WebSphere Commerce Suite. • C++ and Net.Data was replaced with WebSphere Application Server and EJB technology. • Be careful with Express, Professional and Cloud Editions. Restricted by features and licensing. • WebSphere Commerce is recognised as leader by Gartner. • Forrester dropped IBM WebSphere   Commerce from leader to Strong Performer. Copyright Tero Juola

16. MAGENTO 2 • Published first time August 2007 by Varien Inc. • Based on PHP 7, Zend 2 architecture framework and MySQL 5.6 with multi master db support • Runs virtually on any platforms incl. clouds, small footprint, high performance, can be clustered • eBay bought Magento February 2010, sold November 2015 to Permira Funds • Community Edition is licensed under Open Software License/Academic Free Licence and supported by the Community. Current CE version 2.1x, EE 2.1x • Enterprise Edition is licensed and supported by Magento (22-250 k$/year based on online revenue) • Magento’s CE marketshare July 2016 was over 34%, over 260 000 installations. EE 9 % • Magento’s functionality and features can be extent and customised with thousands of ready made extensions leaving the core system/code untouched • OOP, MVC, EAV, OSL 3.0 Copyright Tero Juola

4. TERO JUOLA • 21 years of experience on e-commerce • 15 years of experience on WebSphere Commerce, 11 trainings, 5 Specialist & Expert certifications • 6 years of experience on Magento, trainings, Solution Specialist certification • 1 year of experience on SAP Hybris & Oracle ATG Commerce, trainings • Certified Solution Architect • Over 50 trainings for IBM, Sun Microsystems, Oracle software & hardware, 14 certifications on WebSphere, MQ, DB2, Magento • Over 50 e-commerce projects in different hands-on roles (hobbyhall.fi, sokos.fi, stockmann.com, akateeminen.com, netanttila.com, vallila.fi , luhtabrandstore.com, topsport.fi, bauhaus.fi, pauligprofessional.com, marimekko.com, hexaplan.fi, pauligshop.fi, klick.ee, seppala.fi, ontime.com) • E-commerce merchant since 1997 (International; electronics, sporting goods) • 6 years at Capgemini, 4 years at Sun Microsystems, Satama Interactive, S-Group, Tieto, Oracle, Vaimo Copyright Tero Juola

5. BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE MAGENTO 2 • Magento did same for e-commerce platforms as iPhone did for smart phones. • Magento extension marketplace is like App Store. • Adding or altering web store functionality is not an IT project that takes weeks or months.
In Magento it takes from hours to days. • Time to Market, ROI, TCO and payback time are just incomparable to any other platform. • The Magento 2 product portfolio covers: Community, Enterprise & Cloud Editions for B2C and B2B, Order Management System, Business Intelligence, Social Commerce, Logistics, Content Management, Mobile Apps and POS. • Magento Enterprise Cloud Edition is AWS based PaaS offering from Magento which includes transferable Magento Enterprise Edition, autoscaling hosting with 24/7 99.99 % SLA, management and analysing tools: platform.sh, New Relic, Blackfire.io and Fastly CDN. • Magento is recognised as leader 2017 by Gartner. • Magento is recognised as Strong Performer 2017 by Forrester. Copyright Tero Juola

7. BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE HYBRIS • Refreshing alternative for IBM WebSphere Commerce. • Became a serious competitor 2013 when SAP acquired it. • Is based on Java Spring Framework. • Product offering is covering widely what is needed for omni-channel commerce. • Is more an Java framework than platform. • Be careful with the Cloud and Edge Editions. Not same as on premises edition. • Challenges to run on premises edition on cloud because of licensing restrictions. • Be careful with SAP Named User Licensing requirement if the backend runs SAP. Additional cost risk $89/customer + 18%/y. • Hybris is recognised as leader by Gartner. • Hybris is recognised as leader by Forrester. Copyright Tero Juola

Net income 16.8 million $. • Was acquired by Oracle 2010 for 1 billion $. • Oracle did the usual and only wrapped it to new cellophane with new price tag. • Be careful with the Cloud Edition. It’s not same thing as on premises Oracle ATG Commerce product. • Oracle Commerce Cloud is a rewritten SaaS offering which price starts $100.000 per year. Oracle offers fixed 3 months start-to-launch project for $150.000. • Oracle Commerce Cloud can be compared to Shopify which takes from start-to-launch 4 to 24 man hours and costs few thousands. • Oracle ATG Commerce is recognised as leader by Gartner. • Forrester dropped Oracle ATG   Commerce from the chart.
